Social Networking And Twitter Mistakes – Tools That Work

With the coming of giant social media sites like Twitter, there are bound to be a large number of people using the site in the wrong way.

They may have good intentions but are going about it entirely the wrong way.

These are the deadliest of the many Twitter mistakes (sins) that you will see happening every day.

Here are 10 ways you can avoid these common twitter mistakes so that you don’t fall misfortune to their trap:            Online marketing-twitter common mistakes

1.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Your Profile Pic

Do you have an imagine of yourself posted in your Twitter account?

If you don’t it is important that you put a picture of yourself. Usually a close up picture of your face is best so people can easily tell its you. Make sure to post the same pic in two (2) different locations.

2.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Twitter Background

Is your Twitter background still the default?

If it is, you must change it because your Twitter background is seriously one of the most powerful ways to personally brand yourself to all of your followers. Just be yourself.

Make your page pleasant and easy to look at. If I can’t read it…you can bet that others will not read it either.

3.) Common Twitter Mistakes – User Name

Does your user name brand you as a professional?

If your user name on Twitter says something funny or outlandish that is all good. But if you are using your account for business then you will probably want to use your own full name or your Company name.

Internet Tip:  Numbers-hyphens-stars and all the rest of that junk, make you look like a spammer.

We all have our own adgendas, but, “being real…is the deal”

4.) Common Twitter Mistakes:  Your Tweets

Do your Tweets reflect the Three E’s of Twitter?

Every single one of your Tweets should do one of the following as a general rule of thumb.

  • Entertain
  • Enlighten
  • Enrich

Oh Yeah, make sure you look cool by spelling everything right (spell check!) and make it easy for folks to click your link.

5.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Twitter Links

All of your Twitter links should send people to a place of value and great content.

No more landing pages or spammy sales pages.

If people like your message and who you are they will naturally want to learn more about you.

I found that out from my published articles at Ezine articles and Squidoo, for instance. Start writing and make some extra cash at the same time.

This really works. I dare you to prove me wrong!

6.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Twitter Bio

Does your Twitter bio grab peoples interest?

If it doesn’t you are doing it all wrong. The purpose of the bio is to get people interested in what you have to say. If it’s something that sparks curiosity, then you are on the right path.

Usually if you let your heart do the talking, most folks will not brand you as a fake. By that I mean. . . you won’t try to imitate anyone – but yourself.

7.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Are You Favoring Your Tweets?

Many people don’t know about this for some reason but you can add a star to any of your favorite Tweets by clicking on the star in the upper right hand corner of any Tweet.

This will keep data on of any of your favorite followers/followers.

Twitter is about building the numbers and keeping relationships going.

8.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Conversation/Interaction

Are you interacting with your followers?

The most important part of being on any social media site is interacting with your followers because they are real people just like you. Treat them that way.

Go ahead and Retweet someone that is new. They may turn out to be the next, Gary V.

Look after your followers by creating interest, teaching them something new for free, and occasionally letting them know you are there.

9.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Updates VS Followers

Are your amount of updates relevant to the amount of followers you have?

If you have thousands of followers but hardly any updates, people will think of your as a spammer.

Don’t post something as stupid as offering 1200 followers/week when you only have 500.

Try not to promote things that are all over the forum just with links.

Write an article about something you really know well. Believe me…you are good at something.

10.) Common Twitter Mistakes – Twitter Value

How many people talk to you first?

By the amount of people that try to initiate conversations with you will tell you how well your presence on Twitter is being perceived.

You want good recognition and great things said about you. If you get that, you are on the right path.

Remember that you can only do what you can do. Social Media Marketing is hard work. It demands everything that  any relationship demands.

Say what you mean. . . and mean what you say.

I will spend more on the topic of what you say is what you must do . . . always.

Have you noticed the “If I can ever help you, just ask” quotes?

They have virtually vanished. Why? Because that was garbage.

I contacted many of these folks when I was learning and the answer was somewhat different but always in the same trailer park (I’ve lived in one).

The fact is . . . not everyone is good at replying or even measuring up to knowledge that they say they possess.

The fake it while your making it scenario is invalid. That tactic will not have any staying power.

If you are putting all of these things into practice for yourself on Twitter you should start to see much better results in your marketing efforts. The key is not just learning them, but implementing them. When you do that, your Twitter experience will be taken to the next level.  Don’t let Twitter mistakes ever stand in your way.
